Week one at work
Its grreat how the week just flies by when you are so busy ~ wasn’t it just yesterday when i made my last posting or was it last friday?… it seems all the same to me.
The week kicked off with a film screening at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce of ‘Unveiling Dubai’ – a documentary film by Nayla Al Khaja. The film was claimed as the first production by an emarati woman and so i was curious to see exactly what the hype was all about. The film/documentary wasn’t overly impressive ~ it was rather long and it seemed that it could have gone through a lot more tighter editing. The content was good, but It seemed that she was perhaps being a little precious with her shots and could have been a slightly more ruthless/selective. However, my hats are off to her tremendous efforts and the way she presented herself and her view points. She quite blatantly pointed fingers and underlined the fact that if a local national cannot seem to get any support, how can expatriate film makers expect to get ANY – someone had to say it someday and i hope oh-so-much that it has raised a ‘questioning eyebrow or two’.

Celebrated rakshabandhan early on during the week (Rakshabandhan; An indian celebration popularly celebrated between siblings in which a sister worships the deities, ties a thread called Rakhi to the brother(s) and wishes for their well being. The brother in turn acknowledges the love with a promise to be by the sisters’ side through the thick and thin and gives her a token gift. –>www.raksha-bandhan.com) and thats the rakhi that my sister tied on my wrist as i took my oath of allegiance :0)

This was also my first week back at ‘hmm’ after a year and a half of being away… Its all coming back to me now – the tiring drives back home, tactical dodging of speed radars, the effing and erring over the ‘emarat’ sandwich bar during lunch and the much dreaded rushed deadlines….. all a part of the game – i guess.

Worked on the corporate identity design for a research company called Siraj for most of the week. I was quite happy with the options i devised and the presentation to the client proved extremely beneficial. They turned out to be a very co-operative and responsive group ~ makes my work a lot easier when the client can articulate well what they are looking for ~ yet not limit you by telling you exactly what they want. ( did that make sense? )

Had to post this picture ~ just because i thought it was an absolutely adorable pose… don’t you think?
